About Long Acres Farm

The People

Alison and Alexander Long moved from Chapel Hill to Long Acres Farm in June of 2017.

Alison has a degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University (2014). She is a licensed K-6 teacher with 5 years teaching experience in Chapel Hill-Carrboro Schools.

The Farm

Long Acres Farm is 27 lush acres including pasture and wooded spaces. Our herd of 4 horses and 3 cows lives on a pasture-shift rotation. We are fortunate to rotate and provide grass pasture for most of the year.

The farm was formerly a dressage border barn and home to several horses. After moving in with just one dog and two cats, Alexander and Alison quickly began accumulating animal companions to fortify and help maintain their space. That fall they purchased their first round of chicks and built the chicken coop. In Spring 2018 came the three goats and a new puppy. In Summer 2018, Alison purchased her first horse and welcomed three companion cows. Slowing down through the next fall, the farm welcomed its first horse boarding client in July 2019. In August, Alison brought her 2nd horse (a pony!) to live at Long Acres. Since then the farm has gained two more boarding equine members, rounding out the herd at 5!

Rose

Rose is a 17.2hh (big girl!) Warmblood Mare. She is 13 years old with a background in 3-day eventing. This girl has done it all! She is calm, kind, gentle, and loves interacting with kids. Don’t let her size fool you- she is as sweet and as great a teacher as can be.

Roxie is a 14.2hh Tennessee Walking Horse Mare. She is estimated to be 16 years old and is up for anything! Roxie loves to be brushed (she has a fabulous mane) and go on trail rides with Rose.
